A Weekend Getaway to Raleigh NC

We had such an amazing time on our weekend getaway to Raleigh. We stayed in the heart of downtown at the Longleaf Hotel. This a refurbished mid-century hotel with a great downstairs lounge and patio.

Our room was small but quite comfortable, and I really enjoyed the (Malin+Goetz) bath products provided: peppermint shampoo, cilantro conditioner and rum body wash & soap. So refreshing. The lack of a tub is always a bit disappointing, but the showers were very nice. They also have a Bluetooth speaker in the room for your use, along with a refillable carafe for the filtered water by the ice machine in the hall. There’s also a small fridge stocked with a few drinks, at a somewhat reasonable price. The canned sodas were $2. The front desk will also give you a 10 page printed guide to all the restaurants and attractions within walking distance.

After check in we walked a few blocks to the amazing Mofu Dumpling Shoppe for dinner.

We started with the Twice Cooked Pork Belly which was amazing, especially paired with a sake flight and an ice cold Sapporo.

Followed that up with the Chicken Ginger Dumplings and the Shaved Beef Noodles. The sauces on everything were just scrumptious. I hope I didn’t look too tacky when I drank the remnants straight from the bowl.

Somehow we also managed to force ourselves to eat a dessert as well: “Churros” made from yo-tiao bread and served with vanilla condensed milk and 5-spice fruit jam. Delectable!
