The Bund, Shanghai

The Bund is a waterfront area in Shanghai with great views of the skyline. After our visit to the Yu Garden (see post here), we strolled for about 15 minutes, reaching the Bund in the late afternoon. This is a great time to visit as you’ll get the see the amazing Shanghai skyline both during the day, and after dark, when it really begins to shine!

The walls along the lower part of the sidewalk were lined with flowers and plants and these interesting plastic hemispheres. Wait until my after dark pictures to see these really come to life.

We had a bit of time before dark, so we decided to take a supposedly quick walk to check out a Chinese McDonalds. There are many gorgeous older buildings in this part of Shanghai, so we enjoyed our walk, but when we got to the McDonalds, it was closed! Fortunately a Wang’s Dumplings had sprung up in that spot, so we did not go hungry!

We made our way back to the waterfront, along the way passing the plastic globes we had seen earlier. Now after dark, each one was lit up with a holographic butterfly inside. So amazing and beautiful! Check out a short video clip of the holographic butterflies here.

After enjoying the view and the waterfront for another hour or so, we took another short walk to the subway and before you know it, we were back at the Shanghai Disneyland Resort, just in time for a late bite to eat before bed!
